On the back page of every issue of Domino, we ask one of our favorite tastemakers to tell us the 10 things that make them happy. Look at all those items together, from dainty serving dishes to statement-making sneakers, and you see that we’re essentially gathering holy grail gifting inspiration—for friends, for loved ones, and sometimes even for ourselves. In that spirit, this holiday season we decided to turn the lens on team Domino and curate a list of the things that get us giddy.
But as true design obsessives, once we got going, we realized we couldn’t keep our picks to just 10. Here, the 50 things that are making us happy right now, at every price point and within a range of styles. We hope they bring a smile your way, too.
A tiny price tag means you can stock up on multiples, which especially comes in handy for last-minute invites (instant hostess gift!) or when, whoops, you forgot about your family’s white elephant exchange. The best part? Not a single item on this list, from a decadent sea salt–sprinkled chocolate bar to a two-in-one pencil that’s a book annotator’s best friend, feels like an afterthought.
Candles with a twist. Tea and handmade shortbread cookies. An afternoon-absorbing puzzle from a beloved designer. Each of these cozy—dare we say cottagecore?—presents sets an inviting scene that says “I live in a romantic cabin in the woods,” even if you’re sending one to someone who lives in a high-rise.
No matter what your loved one’s favorite daily ritual may be, from winding down with a glass of vino to making magic in the kitchen, there’s a gift for that. Like a handy appliance that helps avoid a dirty-dish pileup. Or a bottle of orange wine that’s almost too pretty to uncork. We said almost.
When you have to buy something for the person who has everything, make it personal. Whether it’s a catchall tray for keys and mail in their favorite hue, an 100 percent blue agave tequila for their signature cocktail, or a leather phone case stamped with their monogram, they’re sure to love the extra thought that came with it.
Party people, take note: Anyone who has ever hosted friends for dinner knows how valuable it can be to have an extra set of linen napkins or a bamboo barware set on hand. And anyone who’s ever been to said dinners knows the importance of sending a thank-you note (at least if they ever want to be invited back).
You don’t give—or get—a luxurious item every day, which makes each of these picks just a little more special. Each one is a signature piece—from a minimalist menorah to a fresh-cut-grass fragrance—that would stand out anywhere it takes residence, whether that’s in a wardrobe, on the kitchen counter, or on the table when it’s time to celebrate.
