Claire Staszak is an interior decorator and founder of CenteredbyDesign. For this project, she teamed up with fashion designer Veronica Sheaffer to use leftover fringe from Veronica’s collection to add pizzazz to a vintage lamp.

Once thought of as a traditional and stuffy accouterment to window treatments, fringe is making a huge comeback in fashion and interiors. Spotted on the runway on bags, shoes, and skirts in all colors and styles, fringe is totally on-trend. In the home decor space, we love fringe lining the bottom of a sofa, chair, or ottoman. And adding fringe to just about anything will up the style factor, as proven by this DIY fringe lampshade.

The hardest part of this DIY is finding a cool lamp and pretty fringe. After that, it’s a piece of cake.

Step 1:

Gather all your items. You’ll need a scissors, a hot glue gun, fringe, a lampshade, and a lamp.

Step 2:

After cutting your fringe to the correct length to meet or just overlap on your shade, begin to place a generous line of hot glue around the top of the lampshade.

Step 3:

As you glue, follow with the fringe, and gently but firmly press down—taking care to keep your lines straight.

Step 4:

If your fringe is tied up or needs grooming, take your scissors and cut away messy or extra long strands.

Step 5:

Do you have leftover fringe? How about a fringe covered plant container? Fringe covered roman shade? Fringe pillow? You get the idea.
