When you only have a small space to work with, go big or go home. A doormat-style rug can act as a fun accent piece to showcase your personality and bring color into an otherwise cramped, dull area. Most 2-by-3 options won’t break the bank, so this is the perfect opportunity to embrace the funky and experiment with graphic patterns and pops of color. And if you want to create the illusion of more space? Layer your favorite options to pack as much punch into your small terrace (or if you’re in NYC, a fire escape you’re pretending is a terrace) as you possibly can. Medium

Like the often overlooked middle child, medium-size rugs can get a bad rap, but as it turns out, they actually bring a lot to the table (or should we say, floor).
