What is your favorite spot in your home?

My desk area. I love sipping a cup of coffee and answering emails (or browsing blogs) there each morning before work. The lucite console and retro cane chair were both items that I coveted for years, it felt great to finally acquire them — definitely worth the wait.

When it comes to style, what’s the biggest risk you would ever take?

My personal style is built around timeless and classic pieces. While I almost exclusively wear navy, white, ivory, and grey, I still prefer taking risks in the form of unique shoes and colorful statement coats.

How does your home make you feel?

I feel inspired in my apartment. Despite living in the clamorous West Village (I’m directly above a bar and a jazz club), I was determined to create a relaxed and laid-back space. I feel truly at home when surrounded by interesting art, plentiful flowers, and pieces reminiscent of my favorite warm-weather destinations.

What is one thing every small space should have?

A few smart statement pieces that double as storage. I’ve utilized vintage steamer trunks to store art and photo supplies, an antique chest to house off-season clothing and shoes, and oversized beach baskets to contain linens.

What inspires you?

West Coast surf culture, classic East Coast preppy emblems, and 1960’s Palm Beach.

What makes you happy?

Long dinners where you stay out until closing time, a perfectly polished manicure in a orangey-red tone, and laughing to tears with friends who are pretty much family. Nothing tops traveling to a new locale.

How do you decorate in a small space without compromising on style?

The key is to edit your space with a very discerning eye. I have a clear vision of how I want my place to feel and don’t let anything pass through the front door, which doesn’t contribute to that. I’m also a firm believer in pairing the old with the new, adhering to a cohesive color palette, and maximizing every square inch or corner you have.

What is your most prized possession?

A small, sterling silver ring from Tiffany & Co. I received for my 16th birthday, when visiting New York City for the first time. The ring itself is so simple and timeless, which is perhaps why I’ve never taken it off.
