Bigger isn’t always better, especially when dealing with a smaller space.  One of my favorite places to make a major decor moment happen are in awkward little spaces like a foyer or hallway that would usually be forgotten or ignored.  Our small and angular hallway is one of those spaces.  It is a small space with six doors, leaving little room to make an impact.  Knowing this, I choose to add a metallic floral wallcovering to bring a more organic quality to the angular space and it also does a lot of the decor for me.  I love using wallcoverings in tiny spaces!  The flowers provided the perfect backdrop for artwork on this narrow wall.  This small wall needed appropriately scaled artwork, but smaller art can tend to dissapear at times.

Adding three works from Sally King Benedict‘s 2015 Calendar made the most since for this space.  These 5×7 prints were beautiful on their own and were only enhanced by their framing.  I love taking smaller pieces & using at least a 2-3″ mat to draw the eye into the art.  The addition of the mat really takes the work to the next  level.  While framing can be expensive, I like to use Simply Framed.  They are an online custom framer who pays close attention to detail, without the massive upcharge.

Stacking the artwork also makes more of an impact when using smaller works. They can all be from the same artist, as I choose to do, or they can be a collection you have made over time. Prints, original works, photogrpahs or even postcards from your travels… just because they are small, doesn’t make them insignicant. The antique silver frames I choose also help to tie together the metallic silver in wallpaper & the brushed brass accents in the space as well. Mixing metals in a smaller space provides more interest & creates another layer in a small room.

I completed the space with a linen drapery panel from LoomDecor over an open doorway to provide a little extra privacy in the adjoining space when needed. The addition of the fabric helps to soften the space, as well as interject some much needed color.

With a few strategically placed items, this little space makes quite the statement now. With a few strategically placed items, this little space makes quite the statement now.
