This Summery Color Combo Was All Over NYC’s Newest Design Fair
These seven finds will have you wanting to ditch the neutrals for a little while.

Pantone kept its promise. When the company’s Color Institute named Living Coral its 2019 color of the year six months ago, we were excited but skeptical. Would it stick? We got confirmation at New York City’s newest design fair, Object and Thing, last month, where the playful hue was a driving force behind many of the pieces. But as we perused the various booths, we noticed that coral was never alone. The tangy shade appears to have made a new friend: blue.
First, we spotted Misha Kahn’s To Sit or Set, an unconventional stool smack-dab in the center of the fair. The piece was hard to miss with its cobalt-colored grout and patches of pink-y oranges (or are they orangey pinks?). Then we stumbled across Swedish-Chilean designer Anton Alvarez’s polychrome 2905181156 vessel, a ceramic sculpture featuring hits of coral, tangerine, and navy. We knew we were onto something when we saw Anne Marie Laureys’s The Frightened One sculpture in the most perfect pastel version of the palette. Our immediate next thought: We need to bring this sunny twist on the color combo into our homes.
It will take quite a while to save up for Kahn’s stool, but fortunately it didn’t take us long to discover a few affordable alternatives. Behold, seven summer-approved finds that nail this two-tone look:
