Why should kids get all the clean notebooks, new backpacks, and fresh pens? As fall approaches and backto-school season arrives, this week we’re rounding up our favorite office items that will give your desk or WFH space new life.

When I finally got room for a home office in my new apartment, I knew that meant I’d have to get organized—fast. Desk clutter impacts my creativity (and not in a positive way), but, ironically, working as a writer involves collecting a surprising amount of stuff.

Enter the Bisley five- and 10-drawer cabinets, my storage saviors for everything from check stubs and nail polish to ribbons and press gifts, which I stockpile to give to friends when we meet up for dinner. (A girl can only use so many free eyeliners at once.)

The metal drawers, which line an entire wall at my local Container Store, come in at least a dozen fun shades (from baby pink to sage to aqua) that would go with anyone’s decor scheme, but I knew my color combo from the start: a 10-drawer cabinet in white, topped by a five-drawer version in a bright sunny yellow to match the poster that lives above it.

The best part about my Bisleys is how much they hold. Even though I have nearly hundreds of blank cards and yards of ribbon tucked away in the drawers, you’d never know it from the cabinets’ sleek, low-profile design. Plus you can buy drawer inserts that divide space even further, so now my ribbons never get tangled and all my tiny glass bottles (don’t ask; I thought they were cute) reside in one tidy spot. And in the case of the 10-drawer cabinet, the drawers get larger from top to bottom, so I store important papers and lipsticks in the slimmest ones, and charging cords in the bigger ones.

I can’t imagine what kind of disorganized mess I’d be without my Bisleys. Birthday cards wouldn’t go out on time and my nails might never get painted on Sundays while I watch Mad About You. And my work, well, let’s just say thank goodness for my clean and clutter-free desk, or this story might never have happened.
