These Vibrant Carpet Tiles Are Out to Make Corporate Offices Cool Again

Whoever thought fluorescent lighting, crowded cubicles, and flimsy swivel chairs made for better workflow was sorely mistaken. These telltale signs of a stuffy office scream corporate, not creativity. Scratchy, gray, wall-to-wall carpeting is equally snoozy. Netherlands design studio RENS wants to make what’s underfoot the most exciting part of our workdays.

The company teamed up with European fabricator Desso, a brand under flooring company Tarkett, known for its carpet tiles, to create a rainbow-infused collection dubbed Re-Vive. The gradient squares, which will officially be unveiled during Dutch Design Week (October 19–27), allow for endless combinations and, according to RENS, a “new lease on life” for Desso’s core product. 

From flex meeting nooks to wallpaper-filled conference rooms, the future of office design is looking especially bright these days. “Color impacts mood and energy levels,” Robert Jonsson, cofounder of furniture brand Scandinavian Spaces, told us. Simply glancing down at ground covered in these electrifying colors is sure to wake you right up (and, perhaps, give you a good idea or two). The RENS x Desso tiles don’t just have to be for 9-to-5 either—they’d shine in a kids’ playroom or basement, too. We’d ditch the espresso for electrifying floors any day of the week.
