This is Clearly One of Our Favorite Trends Right Now
And it’s *clear* to see why it’s so popular.

Hot off the announcement of the soon-to-be-released, yet somehow already iconic transparent polycarbonate carry-on case collaboration between Rimowa and Virgil Abloh of Off-White, we’re really feeling clear lately. And by clear we mean, translucent, lucite, acrylic, plastic—whatever you call, we want it. But the see-through trend goes well beyond luggage. From furniture to makeup packaging to handbags, here are the crystal clear pieces we’re currently craving.
Available June 25, Abloh’s look-at-all-my-stuff suitcase isn’t for everyone, but… it’s also pretty badass. No more hiding, now’s the time to let you and your clear accessories shine.
Peekaboo Acrylic Bench, CB2, $449
Lucite (which actually is just the brand name for acrylic) and acrylics are nothing new when it comes to furniture; the trend dates back as far as the 1930s. It’s the ultimate chameleon, blending into any style, color, or space. A clear side table or bench, like this CB2 version, has so many design uses. In a small space, it essentially disappears, making the
larger, or it could act as a low-key sidekick to the rest of the room in a maximalist scheme.
1980’s Lucite Armchair, Coming Soon New York, $1,100
The price puts this on the special purchase side of the spectrum, but isn’t this vintage chair a showstopper? That powder blue cushion, that curvy ‘80s shape—literal dream material right here. According to Coming Soon, it’s the same chair from the “Seinfeld” episode where Kramer finds the Merv Griffin Show furniture and sets it up in his apartment.
Mini Shirley Bag, Staud, $195
The cool girl’s answer to accessorizing always seems to be Staud. The downtown LA-based brand’s newest bag is *clear* to see why, too. The heavy PVC gives just enough edge, while the removable, faux croc still gives you a touch of privacy.
Dazzle Washbag, Skinnydip, $30
Love transparency but not sure where to start incorporating it into your space or look? This holographic, plastic makeup bag is a fun place to start. Beyond makeup, I find the bags to be super sturdy and will put them in my large daily bag to bring order to everyday items, like gum, pens, and lipstick.
Hydrating Oil, Milk Makeup, $24
Wanna take the transparency trend to your face? Sure you do! Try out this beloved hydrating oil in a solid stick format, with a apricot, avocado, calendula, and jojoba mix. Swipe it on your face whenever you need a hydration boost, but it can even be applied onto your eyelids and cheekbones for a glossy, wet makeup look.
Lipstick, Rodin Olio Lusso, $34
There is a way to take this love of plastics out into the real world for your beauty routine, too. Thanks to maybe the most stellar and simple lipstick design we’ve seen recently, which is just a fabulous formula lipstick, housed in a crystal clear plastic holder. The perfect excuse to take it out and reapply in public whenever you damn well please. This deserves to be seen!
