A garland is such a simple holiday decoration that it’s actually easy to go overboard with bells, bows, and tinsel. But take it from Amber Lewis: Less is more. The designer’s new holiday editorial for Shoppe Amber Interiors is all finesse, no fuss. This is partly because her winter curation features earthy-toned bottlebrush trees, stone-like serving bowls, and twisted beeswax taper candles, but also because she foraged for her fresh greenery in addition to making a pit stop at her local florist. “There’s so much you can find in your backyard, and we’re lucky enough to be in California surrounded by nature,” says Lewis.

The three moments we want to re-create ASAP: the staircase, the dining table, and the china cabinet. For the table, Lewis peppered whole pears in between branches of delicate ruscus. Meanwhile, she placed a wild and leafy arrangement of wild red berries on top of a nearby chest. In the foyer, she got extra creative, using green paddle wire to tie a series of found evergreen branches together in one long string. (You’ll notice the sticks aren’t wound tightly around the iron railing, but rather casually fastened.)

Eucalyptus looks to be the trending material for garland this year (Brooklyn Decker used it to add a festive touch to her kitchen), so it’s refreshing to see that Lewis sought out (and scoured outdoors) for alternatives. We’ll be happily taking this free decor idea with us into the new decade.
