When it comes to updating a piece of furniture, often times, paint is the best answer. It’s typically a quick and inexpensive way to breathe life into an old piece.

Before

: The headboard in our master bedroom was in desperate need of an update.
Working with a minimal budget, I turned to paint. The result was a fabulous DIY that I still love to this day!

I chose to go with a lively blue. It was a fun and slightly bold choice, but it was exactly what the room needed. Prior to choosing this color, I experimented with several paint chips, to see how they would look against the room.

The chosen color palette was inspired by a beautiful watercolor of an iris that we have hanging in our room. Blues, purples, and touches of gold can be found throughout the room.

Keeping the cost down was key in this update. When it came to the pillow covers, I opted to buy fabric and sew them on myself. This may sound daunting, but it’s a really great project for those with all sorts of sewing experience. If you’re too nervous to tackle a zipper, you can opt to make an envelope closure instead.

While the side tables were originally the same color as the headboard, a touch of white spray paint and a bit of gold for the hardware, gave them a fabulous new look. We finished off the space with his and hers art pieces, and a pair of chic lucite table lamps.
