Marshfield, Vermont

This seriously adorable Nordic cabin, inspired by the owner’s own trip to the Faroe Islands, is your dream (stateside) Scandinavian oasis. In addition to lots of charm, this 144 square foot cabin includes a sauna, fire pit, and resides in the vicinity of ski resorts and a local winery. Outdoor activities abound (ever try snowshoeing?) but we’d be happy just admiring the scenery, too (hot chocolate in hand, of course).

Paradise Valley, Montana

Paradise Valley is the perfect name for this stretch of the Yellowstone River Valley, complete with wide open plains and snow capped mountain views. Step out the front door onto a working sheep ranch with 360 degree views of the Absaroka and Bridger mountains, with an abundance of wildlife to admire. Spend your days fishing, hiking, horseback riding, skiing, snowmobiling, or just cozy up to a woodstove fire inside.

Lucerne, Switzerland

This chic Swiss rental (the smaller of the two pictured) is a petite 15 square meter (161 square foot!) Baroque-style house for two. The interior is cozy, but if the weather is pleasant, you’ll probably prefer spending time outside at the bistro table surrounded by lush green garden views.

Mars Hill, North Carolina

If you like cabin life with a touch of history, this North Carolina rental is your bag. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains at 3000 feet, this rustic homestead is an actual pioneer cabin believed to have been built in the 1830’s or 40’s. The owners (a professional potter and vegetable market grower) know how to live the simple life, and are willing to share a piece of their paradise with visitors. Since they live on site, the rental price also includes daily home cooked breakfast for two, and they also invite guests to tour their extensive property, which includes a mountain stream, gardens, a barn, and mushroom yard.

Fjaerland, Norway

While there is no shortage of amazing rentals in Norway, this rustic red cabin seems to have it all. With views of mountains, water, and a local farm, enjoy nearby glacier hiking as well.

Sarlat-la-Caneda, Aquitaine, France

This French cabin for two takes ‘rustic’ to another level with an abundance of old world feels. Enjoy the charm of stone walls, a wood stove, iron furniture, and a simple country kitchen. The exterior is just as charming, surrounded by trees and nestled within the French countryside. It’s everything you need, nothing you don’t, and the perfect retreat when relaxation is in order.

Monroe, Utah

The owners of this cabin describe it as “funky, but functional and not fancy.” More rustic than other rentals, cooking is relegated to the grill or fire pit, and guests are encouraged to bring extra blankets for cold nights. But, ideally located next to an amazing series of geothermal hot springs, you’ll have plenty of chances to keep warm.

Surry, Maine

Situated within a picturesque apple orchard in Downeast Maine, this small cabin is the ideal hideaway for glampers. The cabin is without electricity, but there is a shared kitchen available on site (vegan only), so guests can decide how rustic their experience will be. The property is located on a gorgeous bay near Acadia National Park with lots of gorgeous water views to envy, and there is a wood stove to cozy up to after a long day of sightseeing.

Savannah, Georgia

Savannah may not be your first choice for cabin life, but this historic rental is about to change your mind.  Rent this authentic 1799 guest house, and enjoy a space brimming with historic features, like original heart pine floors, walls, and ceilings. The cabin is also furnished with antiques, and resides within Savannah’s famed historic district within walking distance of River Street — Southern cabin charm at its finest.

Kachemak, Alaska

It goes without saying that the main draw for this cabin is the amazing it-can’t-be-real view. And while the cabin is simple, the builders are still the managing owners, and obviously take pride in this little piece of Alaskan heaven. With jaw-dropping views of snow capped mountains across Kachemak Bay and an abundance of nature and wildlife, this place is definitely bucket list-worthy.

Crested Butte, Colorado

Located in the heart of downtown Crested Butte, this cabin is actually an original structure dating back to the 1890’s mining era, and part of Colorado’s storied history. Enjoy a view of Mount Crested Butte, amazing nature, and beautiful scenery year round – green and lush in the summer, and lots of picturesque snow come wintertime.

Lapland, Finland

If cold-weather cabin life is your dream vacay, shop Finland for amazing waterfront retreats. This small cabin is ideal for ice fishing, and includes a sauna for warming things up at the end of a long (cold) day.

Slatyfork, West Virginia

Is there anything more picturesque than a rustic wood cabin blanketed in piles of sparkling snow? Enjoy mountain views, unspoiled nature, and gorgeous winter scenery, in this roomier-than-average cabin retreat.
