Natalie Myers designed this soothing sanctuary in Laurel Canyon by incorporating earthy and organic features with a bright and modern scheme. The outdoor deck was made for entertaining and taking in an al fresco summer afternoon. It comes equipped with decorative So-Cal greenery, a standing bar, fire pit lounging area, and a pool.
Tatiana Barhar, founder of Verdego Design always admired her container-style studio home from afar. “It was one of my favorite buildings in the neighborhood,” she explained. The Venice studio is a healthy combination of indoor-outdoor living that’s perfect for entertaining.
Hopie and Lily Stockman, the sisters behind behind
frequently host friends for charming dinner parties in their tiny pink cabin in Joshua Tree. Their courtyard, which doubles as an outdoor kitchen and dining room, embraces the sisters’ pared down aesthetic as well as its reflection of the Southern California landscape. Outdoor area rugs, wooden tables, large cacti and succulent planters reflect and complement the desert landscape.
Interior design firm Weekends Studio and architecture firm FreelandBuck helped bring the vision of Silver Lake Restaurant owners Emily Fiffer and Heather Sperling alive. Their brand new space has a light and bright atmosphere, soft textures, and materials like whitewashed pine, wicker, and soft grey concrete. They used a blue trim on the white facade and dusty pinks to add a Moroccan feel, which referenced the chef’s Mediterranean-influenced cuisine. Florist Lili Cuzor added lush greenery like jasmine, honeysuckle, and herbs to complement the outdoor patio.
Heather Tierney has perfected the boho-chic aesthetic. Her representation of it can be found in her rental bungalow, located in Los Angeles – did we mention it’s actually available on Airbnb? Tierney assembled the coziest indoor-style lounge area complete with an outdoor sofa, blue tie-dye floor cushions, succulents, and leather butterfly chairs surrounding a cozy fire pit.
The famed estate of Jackie Onassis’ family in the East Hamptons is a force to be reckoned with, not only because of its $20 million price tag, but also because of its picturesque outdoor oasis. The backyard overflows with greenery and is decorated with floral planters and white lawn chairs that emphasize the home’s serene in-ground pool.

Morris lives in a 362 square foot Venice bungalow that has not one, but three, dreamy outdoor areas. To make the most of her small space (and simultaneously make it the perfect hangout for warm summer evenings) Morris incorporates café lights, lanterns, and candles for ambience, outdoor area rugs to create texture, and a folding bistro table and chairs that can be swapped out to create more space.
When Lisa Sherry, the designer of this chic, modern Florida home, first saw what her clients were purchasing, she knew only one thing had to happen: “get rid of everything!” she laughed. The entire home was gutted to create an open floor plan that was ideal for entertaining. Sherry incorporated her signature neutral hues and organic textures throughout the home for the ideal contemporary style.
