With Christmas quickly approaching, it’s finally time to break out the holiday decorations—specifically, that tree you’ve been dreaming about since Thanksgiving. Whether you love the Christmas time smell of a natural pine or the ease of an artificial tree (or both!), we’ve rounded up some festive decorating ideas from a few of our favorite Instagram accounts to get you inspired. Try something different this year by trimming your Christmas tree in a specific theme, or keep it traditional with a few white Christmas lights and shiny ball ornaments. 



Floor to Ceiling

 
A tall Christmas tree might not be feasible for every living situation—but if you have the space, why not use it? Camille Styles’ tree soars past the top of her window frame and looms high above her fireplace, giving the whole room a forest-like vibe. With a tree this grand, some white lights and a few ornaments throughout are enough to make it look perfectly styled.

Bare Beauty


This tree from @hayneedle is gorgeous enough on its own. Even though stylist and blogger Alex Evjen plans to decorate it  with a few candy canes, we love the ultra minimalist look of a beautifully shaped tree, especially in a high-ceiling room like this one. 

Beachy Keen


Peach and blush tones bring a fun, beachy vibe to this tree by @palmbeachlately. The ornaments are a mix of color-coordinated pink and gold pineapples, palms, and flowers, with some sentimental pieces added throughout. Keep it Natural


A shorter, smaller, natural tree like this begs for a more outdoorsy look. Jenni Kaye has donned this one with ornaments of tiny woodland creatures (squirrels and the like), along with a few pinecones to make it look like it came straight out from the woods. Talk about a way to bring the outdoors in this winter season.

Totally Blushing


Match your tree with the rest of your interior decor by choosing one color for all the decorations. This blush-toned tree mirrors the blush-toned doors across from it, and complements the modern look of the rest of the room. You can buy sets of matching ornaments and ribbon in one color to achieve a similar style. 

Modern Ornaments


Turn a faux tree into a festive, decorated Christmas one with a few simple additions. Here, @brimoysa chose to have just two types of simple ornaments on her little tree, along with lights and a matching white garland. 

Cozy Corner


This slender, artificial tree fits perfectly in the corner of @trashleymartin‘s home. She makes the most of her small-space Christmas tree by adding a bunch of tiny, pastel ball ornaments and a mini star topper. We love the way she makes the whole corner look cozy by using a faux fur throw as the base cover.

Winter Wonderland


Turn your regular green artificial tree into a snow-filled winter wonderland by grabbing some fluffy white flocking spray and spraying a few branches. The classic red balls on this tree really pop against the snow-filled backdrop. Get the how-to for flocking your own Christmas tree here.

Classic Elegance


Your can’t go wrong with some classic white lights and garlands on a natural tree. Choosing a few sets of matching Christmas balls makes your tree look colorful without being overwhelming. Plus, a fluffy white tree skirt is an easy way to make the whole area look chic without clashing with the rest of your living room decor. We love how Julie of @ellivenstudio starts her tree’s decor, and then lets the kids take over.

Pretty in Pink


Shake things up by foregoing the classic green and red color palette and purchasing a jazzy, colored artificial tree like @melodrama‘s pink one. Though the pink is an unexpected twist, the tree is still made to look super festive with sets of bright metallic ornaments and a white fluffy garland. The result? A modern, millennial take on the classic. 

Twin Trees


Just in case one tree isn’t festive enough, why not have two? The matching trees on either side of the fireplace in this high-ceiling room are jaw-dropping, thanks to their grandiose and coordinating decorations. The pops of teal and magenta in the ornaments make the trees feel dreamy and vibrant, while the garlands accentuate their shape.

Red, White and Green


You can’t go wrong by keeping things in the same classic color palette. This sweet little tree blends in perfectly with the home’s holiday decor, making the entire room look festive, but cohesive. The pillows on the fireplace bring out the color found on the tree, while tiny red and white lights with miniature white balls look timeless.

Rustic Vibes


A smaller version of a real tree is a nice way to get that coveted natural pine scent into your home without too much hassle. A shearling tree skirt gives this mini tree rustic vibes that match the rest of the home, while a couple of white lights make it look festive.

Besides the basket base of this tree (which is absolute genius), we love the all-white ornaments that match the rest of the room—they let the deep green of the tree really stand out. It’s an understated, yet sophisticated choice.

This glitter-filled pom pom tree from Emily Henderson is almost a work of art. Bright gold tinsel hangs from “branches” attached to a base, in order to give it a tree-like feel.

Give your tree a retro vibe by decking it out in tons of tinsel. Here, Jennifer Perkins’ gold tree is dripping in metallic and glitter, complete with a bright and explosive tree topper. Every branch of this snazzy tree is filled with lots of glittery ball ornaments in funky colors. A perfectly playful take on your not-so-ordinary Christmas tree, this is a true example of not being afraid to go all out.

Pastel Pine


Lots of light pink florals and faux snow adorn this dainty Christmas tree. White, pink, and light blue pastels give it a bright, airy aesthetic, lit up by twinkly white lights underneath. We even spot a few doughnut ornaments, so don’t be afraid to mix in some non-matching additions as well. 

Top Hat Topper


Switch up the normal star on top of your tree with something festive—like this red-brimmed top hat. The multicolored lights on this tree add to the playful motif of the red Santa hat ornaments and fire engine sitting underneath. The sign in the center—cradled by the branches—is a statement-making addition.

Present Tree


Make your tree look as pretty as all the carefully wrapped gifts underneath it by tying a ribbon at the top. In this case, glittery gold sparkles as both a garland and tree topper.
