The backyard at my new house in Wilmington, Delaware, is going to be the ultimate entertaining space. My goal is to live exclusively outdoors this summer, so I’m treating this space as I would any interior room by bringing in colorful textiles and beautifully textured tile flooring. Durable outdoor rugs, hardworking fabrics, and proper exterior lighting will get my yard barbecue ready with style.

Dining Out

Ronan Flatware Set, Ralph Lauren Home ($65)

Since I’m going for easy-breezy, storing flatware in earthenware cups will make entertaining a cinch.

Between the Lines

Rugby Stripe Denim Indoor/Outdoor Rug, Dash & Albert ($54)

A classic striped flat-weave keeps the backyard floor from becoming a bore.

Pitcher Perfect

Pitcher, Ikea ($8)

I can’t say no to a good margarita, so this clean-lined pitcher will ensure that I’ll have several servings at the ready. And it looks pretty on a shelf when not in use.

Hello, Yellow

Pot, Svenskt Tenn ($48)

After being indoors for so long, even my plants are craving sunny colors.

Barbecue Azul

Master-Touch Charcoal Grill 22″, Weber ($229)

I’ll admit I’m not the greatest chef, so I’ll be burning your burgers in style on a bright ocean blue Weber.

Tile Talk

Traditional Cotto Tile, Fornace Brioni

The light mottled texture of these traditional terracotta tiles sets the stage for fireside friend hangs.

Double Duty

Intreccio Round Dining Table by Officina Ciani, Artemest $3,060

An Italian marble table is worth the splurge for dining alfresco—and then for meals inside during the off-season.

Plate Party

Azuladas Hierbas Plate Set, Get the Gusto (Price upon request)

I’m amping up the exterior walls and hanging a favorite decorative plate (or six!) on the privacy fence, just as I would inside.

Sun Seat

Ayden Patio Loveseat by Threshold, Target ($400)

Finding a cozy spot to read the newspaper each morning is mandatory.

Spiced Up

A citrusy outdoor fabric adds personality to my wicker bench, and the double-face twill will be extra-durable, too.

Shine the Light

Factory 4 Outdoor LED Sconce, Schoolhouse ($499)

A neat row of barn lanterns brings order to the rear facade of the house.
