Behr’s 2020 color of the year is here, and it’s oh so relaxing. The paint brand just announced that Back to Nature, a meadow-inspired yellowy green, is its prediction for the next trendy hue. The restorative shade offers a new way to bring the outdoors in beyond your typical emeralds and seafoams. “Green is nature’s favorite color; it’s nature’s neutral,” says Erika Woelfel, vice president of color and creative services at Behr.
The company chose a fitting backdrop for the reveal: Napa, California. Against the lush, hilly landscape at Calistoga Ranch, we got a sneak peek of the color and learned from Behr and Home Depot paint experts how it can play out in the home. “It’s a life-force color. It feels very vital when you think about how it lives in nature and how it works with other colors,” Woelfel shares, adding that the energizing green pairs particularly well with the brand’s Bubble Shell pink, which, along with Back to Nature, was one of 15 shades that made the cut for the brand’s 2020 Color Trends palette.
Behr is on a roll with zen paints these days (you might recall that the company chose calming Blueprint, a navy with soft gray undertones, as its pick for 2019). We’re looking forward to embracing this year’s winning color on all surfaces—nothing is off-limits when there’s the opportunity to turn your home into a comforting sanctuary. Doorframes? Yes. Kitchen cabinetry? Absolutely. Wood furniture? That, too. We’re ready for you, January.
