Looking back, Stephanie Goos Johnson describes her young self as the quiet kid with a sketchbook. Fast forward a few years, and not too much has changed. With a BFA in Graphic Design under her belt, Johnson’s professional foray into the arts began with a stint in packaging design as well as various freelance opportunities. Following the birth of her third son, she began drawing again (during naptime!) and even took up a painting class, from where her passion was reborn. Here, the Connecticut native touches on her inspirations and the stunning space she gets to call home.

Where do you feel most inspired?

It can be something as simple as looking outside of my window. I’m inspired by all the amazing women in my life and the artists in the Minted community. They encourage me to keep going.

How would you describe your personal style?

My style is classic, mostly neutral with natural textures, and spurts of color. I love history, so you’ll find a few antique pieces around my home, along with plenty of interesting patterns.

What makes a home beautiful?

Having items you really love and becoming comfortable with the things you have.

What’s your most prized possession?

My house itself. It’s been in my husband’s family for four generations, and I feel so privileged to have the chance to live here. I love looking out the window and seeing the fields change colors as the seasons go by. It’s simply beautiful.

On what items do you scrimp?

There’s a flea market down the road from my home, where you’ll find me every Sunday morning, with a cup coffee in my hand. So many of the treasured items in my home are from there.

On what do you splurge?

I mostly tend to splurge on things when I’m on vacation. It may be something small, yet slightly expensive, but I always love bringing home a piece of my travels. It definitely makes a space all the more interesting.
