Breaking news, floral arrangements can be inspired by textiles–so long as they are extremely chic. Here, we share a collaborative project that brought together two of our favorite things to have in our homes at all times: textiles and florals. The collaboration, betweenArtemis Design Co. and Boston Pollen, highlights colors and textures with depth and beauty welcome in the home at every season. Better still, you can shop artemis design co rugs and bags on domino!

The two pieces that Krissy and I chose to work with for this project represent completely different styles. The first one is the small yellow azizal carpet, which has a soft high pile and muted yellow, creams, and blue colors. It was made in Morocco using a looser weaving and pattern structure.

Krissy used soft colors to recreate this rug- “One of my favorite elements to use was branches of cotton, using the fiber in it’s raw form to enhance the shape of the arrangement and pay homage to that essential ingredient. I also used several different berries and foliages to add a variety of textures to the rug, giving it the feel of your favorite high pile carpet.”. I love how she really recreated the soft look and feel of this piece with rose petals.

The second piece, a complete floral arrangement based off of an Artemis Design Co Sumak Baby Duffle, and also our Havana Smoking Shoes, was inspired by the bright primary colors, and stark whites present in the carpet.  This type of carpet is completely different from the soft azizal style.  It is tightly woven with representations of animals and figures woven into it, and is a flat weave.

The arrangement that Krissy created based off of this style carpet (repurposed into a handbag and shoes) is more traditional, much like the carpet itself, using primary colors and textures, such as cotton to represent what makes up the rug itself.

When Milicent first came up with the idea of recreating some of her beautiful carpets with flowers, I was inspired by the challenge of combining the colors and textures of flowers to mimic the aesthetic of textiles. One of my favorite elements to use was branches of cotton, using the fiber in it’s raw form to enhance the shape of the arrangement and pay homage to that essential ingredient. I also used several different berries and foliages to add a variety of textures to the rug, giving it the feel of your favorite high pile carpet.

In general, when I’m selecting flowers for interiors, I try to keep the overall esthetic as my guide and let the specific colors be secondary. A very minimal space benefits from the line of a single beautiful branch, while a more bohemian space filled with colors and vibrancy demands a more lush arrangement. If you’re ever unsure of what flowers to select, just pick your favorite. If you love it, then it will always add happiness to your home.
