This ’90s Material Is Making a Comeback in Anthropologie’s New Collection

The past few years have been a velvet blur. Sure, the odd outlier cropped up every now and then—looking at you, cane—but the general consensus seems to be: If you own a statement seating piece, it’s usually swathed in the plush material. Anthropologie would like you to consider some alternatives. The brand’s spring collection just launched and it’s full of unexpected materials that flip the script on tradition—there’s a whole world beyond velour and it’s undeniably chic.
The line (which will be officially available to shop on January 27) is a real color-filled gift. It showcases a range of special manufacturing techniques, like flower dyeing and using reclaimed wood from hurricane-collapsed trees. Also, there are some fun fabrics in the mix that bring a touch of textile to any room of the house.

The Throwback Material
This isn’t your average ’90s-era chenille. Anthro’s revamped version is richly hued and feels elevated, thanks to the sleek seating options it covers. We can’t decide between the asymmetrical sofa and swivel chair—okay, we’ll just order both.
The Restored Score
Cool curved shape aside, the best thing about this coffee table is that it was made with salvaged wood from fallen trees. It even features a design meant to resemble a trunk, which takes nature-inspired to a whole new level.
The Carpet Chair
The collection features a number of armchairs upholstered in handwoven recycled cotton fabric, and we have our eye on this sweet little pink number for cozying up a reading nook. It’s inspired by the same craft used to make Chindi rugs, which helps amp up the piece’s vintage vibes.
The Patchwork Pillows
