Here’s a not-so-novel statement: I love my bed. This has something to do with my linen bedding, but if I’m being really analytical about it, I can chalk most of it up to my comforter. It’s from IKEA, and it has the perfect level of squish while maintaining an ideal, Goldilocks-like temperature. All this to say—Amazon’s best-selling duvet had a lot to live up to.

The Linenspa all-season down-alternative comforter is currently at number 14 in the home best-sellers category, making it the most popular duvet at the moment, and at number 5 on the bedding-specific list. It boasts an average 4.5-star rating and almost 11,500 reviews (and counting). Most of them center on how cloud-like it feels, which is the first thing I noticed when I opened the package and spread it over my bed, my IKEA favorite temporarily relegated to the closet for the week.

Down Alternative Quilted Comforter, Amazon ($30)
Shop

The first (and most obvious) thing this bedding has going for it is the price. Any way you look at it, $30 for a queen size is pretty incredible, especially since this is a duvet that reportedly doesn’t need a cover. Right now, it’s even cheaper: For a limited time during Cyber Monday, it’ll be $24. However, I recommend using one anyway; some of the reviewers say theirs started showing wear and tear after a few months, which could easily be circumvented.

The second pro is that it’s machine washable. Made from a microfiber down alternative (good news for animal lovers), it’s not as high-maintenance as its feather-filled counterparts—and since you’re reportedly meant to wash your duvet at least every six months to prevent mites, this will undoubtedly come in handy. I should mention, it looks deceptively thin, almost like a quilt. But hot sleepers, beware: Despite its lighter appearance, the blanket actually gets super-warm. If you live in a colder climate, though, it would be perfect for winter.

Personally, I’ll be sticking with my old comforter for now—for me, temperature control and plush texture trump all. If you’re willing to spend a little (or a lot) more, here are some other options worth checking out:

Rodtoppa Comforter, Ikea ($60)

Yes, this is the IKEA cover I waxed poetic about earlier. You can pick a temperature on the site (I went with “warmer,” and it’s seen me through every season, though it also has “cooler” and “extra warm”) so it’s customized to your sleeping needs.

With a cover made of 100 percent sateen, this one ensures you’re in for some seriously silky smooth sleep. Allswell’s down-alternative option has an anti-allergic polyester fill and is created with antimicrobial technology, so if your 2020 New Year’s resolutions include making your home healthier, I’d start here.

Down Alternative Comforter, Snowe ($150)

Snowe’s reviewers keep coming back to the fact that this high-end–feeling comforter is machine washable (one has even put it through weeks of washes because her dogs sleep with her). When you pair that with the upscale cotton fabric, it’s pretty impressive.

The Breeze Comforter, Buffy ($220)
Shop

At $220, Buffy’s eucalyptus-based style is definitely more of a splurge, but if you’ll have it for years to come it’s worth it in cost per use alone. One Domino editor credits it for her best sleep ever, which is likely due to the super-soft, eco-friendly, temperature-regulating exterior. That said, we know you don’t need another reason to keep hitting snooze—indulge at your own risk.
