The one thing every urbanite can agree on? Space is sacred. So sacred, in fact, that time-saving appliances like microwaves and toasters are often sacrificed for more square footage. But what if there was a way to have both? Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve discovered what might just be the answer to all city dwellers’ prayers: an actually chic countertop dishwasher that can squeeze into the smallest of corners.

The lifesaver in question, which first caught my eye during a visit to a friend’s apartment, is currently listed as Amazon’s number-one new release for countertop dishwashers and requires no setup. Simply fill the rear water tank, load up to three sets of tableware in the lower basket and 16 pieces of cutlery in the upper tray, choose from four wash settings, and before you know it your dishes are good as new.

I know what you’re thinking: “There’s no way this small contraption can properly rid my plates of last night’s takeout.” But after witnessing a few wash cycles (each takes about 90 minutes and uses less water than hand washing), I can confirm that the machine really is all it’s cracked up to be. After every use, plates emerge sparkling, free from any stubborn stragglers (all excess food particles get caught in a filter for easy disposal) and, with the help of the drying function, ready to be put away immediately. The best part? It measures less than 20 inches on all sides, making it compact enough to slide under your sink or leave out on your countertop without taking up too much prime real estate (it’s retro design is easy on the eyes, too).

Don’t just take my word for it—94 percent of the dishwasher’s Amazon reviews got five stars, with one commenter saying, “In short the dishwasher is simple, affordable, and gives you more time in your day.” What else do you need?
