There’s no denying that an all-white color scheme is clean, crisp, and sophisticated. But despite its obvious charms, it also tends to be one that many people avoid. Why? Well, there’s the challenge of making it feel comfortable and inviting, versus stark and museum-like. We’ve all been to those houses where you’re afraid to touch anything, let alone sit down—and you definitely don’t want your home to be one of them.

Then, there’s the practical aspect: While you may have fantasies about a pristine space for your always-angelic kiddo, the reality is, it’s probably not such a great idea to decorate your finger paint loving little one’s territory in an exclusively white palette. But when it comes to your master retreat, the effect can be quite striking—not to mention totally tranquil.

And while all this talk of potential pitfalls could have you even more trepidatious than before, don’t be: An all-white bedroom is basically a blank slate. Instead of stirring intimidation, it should stimulate creativity.

Need some inspiration? We’ve rounded up a selection of wow worthy sleeping quarters—plus tips from interior designer Amy Lee McArdle of Amy Young Designs—to help you pull off this dreamy look in your own dwelling.

Lake Tahoe Tranquility

“This neutral guest suite has so many amazing layers of white and cream. It’s country chic with a crisp feel,” says McArdle. The wood-paneled walls have a slight blueish tint, but the sisal flooring tones that down a bit. And the woven area rug makes it feel extra cozy.
