This Air Purifier–Meets–Duster Means You Can Ditch the Cleaning Task Altogether

Air purifiers have long been praised for their health benefits. They can help with allergies and asthma, ward off germs, and remove pollutants on a molecular level. That’s more than great, but have you ever wanted yours to do a little bit more work around the house—say, help you clean? Now there’s one that will get rid of your dust bunnies before they even hit the floor.

A new patent-pending product called the DustMagnet, designed in Sweden by Blueair, attracts airborne dust particles using a unique airflow pattern and charged filters. The machine is barely noticeable when it’s running (the company says it produces a soft whisper on its lowest setting) and requires about as much energy as a lightbulb when it’s on high. So what’s it actually sucking up? Dirt, hair, clothing fibers, pollen, skin cells, microscopic specks of plastic—all the things we often forget make up household dust.

The $290 find will be officially available for purchase in the fall and comes in two finish options: white and light gray. There’s a small version that’s good for rooms that are up to 242 square feet and a larger unit that can clean spaces up to 380 square feet. While you might have to wait a bit to get your hands on one, the upside is when you do, you won’t be spending your entire Sunday hunched over with a handheld duster or vacuum. It’s about time we reclaim our weekends.
